Natural Tips for Better Night’s Sleep

Most people aren’t getting enough quality sleep for their bodies to function the way they should. While there are pharmacological ways of getting to sleep, many of those are addictive and should not be used long-term. Instead, check out this list of natural tips you can embrace for a better night’s sleep.

1. Commit to a Sleep Schedule

The biological clock does best when you go to bed and wake up at the same time each day. This means that even though it can be tempting to try and catch up on sleep by waking late on the weekends, the better move is to embrace a sustainable sleep schedule that you can work with all week long.

2. Get Active

It’s difficult for your body to get a good night’s rest when it hasn’t spent enough time being active. Sedentary lifestyles have been connected to poor sleep, with active individuals reporting more restful slumber. Don’t exercise right before bed, though; late-night activity can keep your body from settling down enough to get quality sleep.

3. Take a Bath

Taking a bath relieves anxiety and helps relieve tension that can keep the body from relaxing enough to fall asleep. Add a few drops of lavender essential oils to get an even more blissful bedtime bath.

4. Limit Caffeine Before Bedtime

Long after you stop feeling the noticeable effects of caffeine, it can remain in your system and disrupt your sleep. Stop ingesting caffeine several hours before you plan to go to bed.

5. Keep It Cool

While warm weather might be enjoyable in the daytime, trying to sleep in hot conditions makes for lousy sleep. The body does best when it is cool at night, so turn down the thermostat and don’t overdo it on blankets and bedtime clothes.

6. Skip Electronics While Winding Down

Electronics such as TV, computers, video games and cell phones all emit light that can make it difficult for the body to go to sleep as it stimulates the brain. Shut down your electronics about an hour before bed for deeper sleep.

7. Visit Your Chiropractor

A visit to the chiropractor can help sleep in a few ways. Stress can make it difficult to get a good night’s rest, and chiropractic care can help lower your body’s stress hormone. It can also help you breathe better by helping your neck to stay aligned as a misaligned neck can cause a decrease in oxygen levels that can keep you from reaching the necessary REM sleep.
